My approach to painting encompasses a philosophy that reflects aspects of life,
spirit and physical environment. A view that is ordinary and frequently overlooked is my choice of subject matter.
What makes this view special and memorable is a certain quality of light and its effect on the environment. I am
endlessly inspired by the transformative effect of sunlight on the appearance of the land.
I paint images of our landscape to represent a spirit and to identify a way of looking at our land. It is
important that I create images that encapsulate the essence of this part of the world: its energy, vitality and
changing vistas. I strive to convey a scale of infinity that the prairie imposes on its viewer. Other times, I
reduce the scale to walkable acreages to create the feeling of “being there”.
