Opening Reception Thursday, November 8th, 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. (Artist in attendance)
Opening on November 8 through 26, 2007 at the Ken Segal Gallery is
Ewa Tarsia’s solo exhibition Demarcation of an image - part 2. Building on
part one (held at the gallery in May 2006), this exhibition further blurs the boundary
between printmaking and paintings.
Elected into the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts in 2007, Tarsia has been exhibited in numerous exhibitions locally and
internationally. Her most recent is the Plug In ICA’s group exhibition Scratching the Surface: The Post-Prairie Landscape,
for which she created a large installation of paintings on Plexiglas by a window, transforming it into a visual treat for
viewers both inside and outside the gallery. She also has another one planned for at the North Dakota Museum of Art in Grand Forks.
Demarcation of an image - part 2 is an exploration of printmaking and painting. Tarsia
is revealing the art created with acrylic plates –
some of those are the printing plates from which her highly-praised
and sought-after mono-prints are made. Like other printmakers, she shares the tradition that sees the plates as the true objects
of their affection. The acrylic sheets that she inscribed and painted on are art forms in their own merit. The glossy nature of
the acrylic gives the colour its brilliancy, creating a luminescent appearance of the works. Besides the 23 eye-dazzling works
that are on display in the main area, one piece equally worth mentioned is a major installation of 40 die-cut plexi panels hung
together by the front gallery window, interplaying with light and movement between them.

Press-ready images are also available.
