Show Dates June 21st – July 7th, 2007
Opening Reception Saturday, June 23rd, 2 – 5 p.m.
The Ken Segal Gallery is pleased to announce that during the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts (RCA)
127th Annual General Assembly in Winnipeg in June 2007, we will be showcasing the works of a number of Manitoba RCA members along
with a gallery showcase. From June 21 to July 7, works by Manitoba RCA members – Bruce Head, Esther Warkov,
Ewa Tarsia, Ted Howorth, Eva Stubbs, Bill Lobchuk, Andrew Valko, Valerie Metcalfe,
Don Reichert, Ann Smith, Diana Thorneycroft, and Aganetha Dyck – will be exhibited. This is the
first opportunity for the public to see works by many of these artists in a single exhibition. On Saturday, June 23, from 2 to 5 pm,
we will be hosting an opening reception and invite all attendees and the public to visit the gallery.
Our gallery would like to congratulate Aganetha Dyck, who has recently joined our gallery, for winning the
Governor General’s Award in Visual and Media Arts and being the recipient of the Manitoba Arts Council Arts Award of Distinction
in 2007. We would also like to congratulate our gallery artist Ewa Tarsia for becoming an RCA member; she will officially be
inducted into the Academy at the annual assembly. (Tarsia is pushing her work in new directions, adding new forms, shapes,
colours and techniques. What emerges is an evolving and exciting body of work.) Also joining Tarsia as Manitoba artists
inducted this June are Ione Thorkelsson, Simon Neil Minuk, Noam Gonick, Reva Stone, Grace Nickel, James Doran, and Karen Dahl. And we
congratulate all of them of this honour as well.
Becoming an RCA member is a big honour for an artist because you are nominated and elected by your peers. New members are recognized
for their significant contributions through their work to the visual arts. Since 1880, the RCA organization has been supporting and
promoting excellence in visual arts in Canada.
This exhibition marks our further commitment to the visual arts and bringing quality contemporary art to Winnipeg. It is an exciting
group show highlighting many of the local RCA and our gallery artists. The Ken Segal Gallery is committed to exhibiting and
representing leading and emerging Canadian and international contemporary artists from different cultural backgrounds. For those who
are new to discover our gallery, you will find a gallery committed to showcasing the best in contemporary art. For further
information, please feel free to contact the gallery.
