Opening Reception Wednesday, August 8th, 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. (Artist in attendance)
The Ken Segal Gallery is pleased to present Winnipeg artist Megan Vun Wong’s
solo exhibition, Vacillate. This exhibition is her first at our gallery, featuring over 20 paintings
– a combination of acrylics and enamels on canvas. The show opens with an artist reception at our gallery, located at
4–433 River Ave., on Wednesday, August 8, 2007 from 6:30 to 8:30 pm and runs until September 1.
Vacillate is an exploration and expression of a difficult time in an artist’s life. It is a
shifting of works between different emotions, styles and types of work. After the sudden passing of her husband of 26 years,
Vun Wong’s art followed the ups and downs of her emotions. She had worked on her paintings over the last two years,
showing a real growth personally and artistically. Through her art, and the process of creating it, Vun Wong has found hope
out of a devastating event; from the feelings of despair, expressed in her acrylic paintings, to a feeling of optimism, in her enamel
paintings.
In her words, “the acrylic paintings denote the despondency; the enamel paintings rejoice an energy, an
exuberance. These enamel works herald the beauty of life and imbue a spirituality renewed; a soul reawakened; a self
restored.”
The beauty of Vun Wong’s work is the expressive style that enables the viewer to make their own interpretations and
meanings. She shows how art, especially abstract art, can on one hand be an expression of the artist’s emotions and feelings, but
can on the other convey different things to the viewer.
