After two years of research into the development of a stable process and
definitive look, Phil Stein, an advertising photographer by profession, began
marketing his work of art in January 2004 after completion of his first piece. Since then, his work has
been in art collections in the U.S., Canada and the United Kingdom.

The foundation of my process is digital images printed with archival inks and papers mounted on 100% cotton
rag board by acrylic matte medium and buffered glues. This allows a large collage of many layers to be
extremely light, acid free and durable while maintaining the aesthetic qualities of the fine arts. The
surface is reworked through combinations of standard materials.
I began private instruction at the age of 12. The primary focus was mathematics (the golden section), and
the traditional methods of organization surrounding the root rectangle grid systems. A strong emphasis was
placed on classical drawing and painting skills. I have discovered this foundation to be invaluable for the
ability to move beyond classicism with strength and substance. Rhythm, balance and the natural structure that
occur in all things are my concerns.
My goal is to define the series with the process and not one specific look so that I may move further with
each piece.
