Opening Reception Thursday, September 7th, 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. (Artist and organizer in attendance)
The Ken Segal Gallery is pleased to present
The Global Village – 10 Contemporary Artists from Serbia and Montenegro.
The art exhibition is organized by the Cultural Center of Shumadija and one of the exhibiting artists, Momir Knezevic.
Mr. Knezevic is coming from Serbia for the exhibition and will be here starting the week of August 23rd. This show is
a major exhibition curated by the Ken Segal Gallery along with Mr. Knezevic.
“Global village” is a term popularized by Canadian philosopher and communications theorist Marshall McLuhan. The artists of
this exhibition come from different locations throughout Serbia and Montenegro; many of them are professors of fine arts and
exhibiting artists with extensive résumés. What we hope our viewers would take away from this exhibition is the fact that art,
especially contemporary art, transcends all borders.
This exhibition was organized to provide an opportunity for the Cultural Center of Shumadija to showcase many of their contemporary
artists. It is made up of approximately 50 pieces of art. The types of work vary from oil and acrylic on canvas and board,
watercolour and ink on paper, mixed media pieces, and printmaking. Works are quite varied in style, texture, colour and imagery.
Detailed information about the artists can be found in the catalogues produced for the exhibition.
The Global Village marks the start of the fall season of art exhibitions at the Ken Segal Gallery.
It runs from September 7th to 30th, 2006. The opening reception is on September 7th from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The work may be available
for preview and sale. So, please join us at the opening to see this large scale exhibition, enjoy some light refreshments and meet
one of the artists and organizers.
The Ken Segal Gallery is committed to showcasing contemporary art of the highest standard. As part of our commitment and goal
to exhibit and develop contemporary art of an international standard, we aim to build our gallery to show quality works and
