The Ken Segal Gallery is proud to present our gallery's first exhibition of sculptural art work by ceramic artist Tanis Dick. The show, titled The Hybrid Series, opens on October 5th, 2006 and runs until October 28th. It features over 30 ceramic pieces varied in types and sizes. This show marks the gallery's first solo exhibition of sculptural works. It is also our gallery's introduction to our new artist.

Tanis Dick graduated from the School of Fine Arts at the University of Manitoba and went on to get her master's degree in Art Therapy at Norwich University in Vermont. She has exhibited in Florida and Canada. Her work was featured in the book THE CERAMIC SPECTRUM (2nd Edition) by internationally known ceramic artist Robin Hopper. Today, she maintains an art therapy practice in Winnipeg and continues to work in clay using wheel-thrown and sculptural forms.

What drew our gallery to Tanis Dick's art are the shapes and colours of her sculptural work. She has created work that conveys a story to the viewer through its form, surface, colour and, in many cases, the symbolic images she uses.

Tanis Dick says, "The Hybrid Series emerged from my appreciation of simplicity and understatement, as well as my fondness for the beauty and dynamic quality in horses, birds, fish and plant life. Themes of solitude and connectedness emerge and coexist in many pieces."

The Hybrid Series by Tanis Dick will take place from October 5th - 28th, 2006 at the Ken Segal Gallery. The opening reception is on Thursday, October 5th from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. So, please join us at the opening to meet our new artist Tanis Dick, enjoy some light refreshments and see the show. In-person or telephone interviews with the artist can be arranged. The show will be ready for preview prior to the opening. Press-ready images are available.
