The Art of William Pura
Much of my visual art of the past few years has dealt with the urban landscape. I have been very interested in man-made forms and the poetry that comes from the relationships between buildings as well as the natural landscape.
Light has been a major concern for all my work. Living on the northern plains of North America where the sunlight is bright and hard, has for me become an issue that has permeated my vision. The clarity of the light brings out sharp edges and clear shadows cutting through the forms of the landscape.

Artificial lighting has also become a major interest to me. In the night, the everyday images are transformed by new shadows and lighting patterns. The street lights, the neon of commercial signage and even the passing headlights of cars all give me a chance to work with unusual colours and shapes. Of course, the night always brings an air of mystery and the unknown to what might be a common view during the day.
In all my work I am interested in the implication of the human presence. I have only recently begun to include the human figure into some works. Otherwise, the human presence and its activities are always implied and the possible narrative that might be present in the situation is left unstated.
